Designed in 1855 by the English engineer J.B. Fenby, it was licensed to Italian companies from the early 1900s. One of these companies had the intuition to supply it to the Italian settlers in Libya, where its very fast and lightweight folding mechanism made it ideal for outdoor living, gardens, and scientific and military expeditions. The chair was such a success that it became the quintessential “Tripoli chair”, or “Tripolina”. Following the war, the Tripolina saw a new wave of success thanks to its use by great architects, such as Franco Albini and Giuseppe Terragni. This enshrined it conclusively as an international icon of style. Handmade in Italy, its foldable superior-quality solid ash frame makes it extremely functional and easy to transport. All the chairs can be fully customized on request.
